Providing education and employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities

Watch Project SEARCH video Watch the video!

Project SEARCH is a program at the Holmes Regional Medical Center campus and provides education and employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. It is dedicated to workforce development that benefits the individual, community and workplace.

Two Unique Programs

It is comprised of two components: the Adult Employment Program and the High School Transition Program. The Adult Employment Program coordinates job development and agency referrals with human resource needs. The High School Transition Program is a one-year educational program for students with disabilities in their senior year of high school.

Targeted for students whose main goal is competitive employment, the program takes place in a setting where total workplace immersion facilitates the teaching and learning process through continuous feedback and application of new skills. The program includes three to four worksite training rotations with each lasting approximately nine weeks long. The training is geared toward job functions that are complex and systematic such as office skills, organizing and conducting inventory on supplies, and sterilizing surgical instruments.

Partners who make it a reality

Health First is a key partner with Brevard Public Schools, Vocational Rehabilitation, The Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Brevard Workforce Development Board, Brevard Business Leadership Network, Brevard Achievement Center, and Bridges and Mercedes Homes in making Project SEARCH a reality. In 2007, Health First provided nearly $100,000 to help fund the Project SEARCH program.

Project SEARCH Successes!

Since the program began, twelve students have been hired at Holmes Regional Medical Center and one student has been hired at Cape Canaveral Hospital. In addition, nine adults have been hired through the Project SEARCH adult program. The program will expand to Cape Canaveral Hospital in 2008.
