Health First Occupational Medicine

General information

With convenient locations throughout Brevard, Health First Medical Rehabilitation's outpatient services are provided to individuals following orthopaedic/trauma surgery, neurologic impairments, arthritic conditions, work-related injuries, sports injuries, and cardiovascular impairments.

Working hand-in-hand with primary care physicians, specialists, and occupational medicine physicians, as well as employers and insurance providers, our goal is to return patients to the best possible condition, and promote a healthy and safe lifestyle.

Some of the conditions generally referred for occupational therapy and/or physical therapy include:

Spine

  • Injuries to the neck or low back
  • Herniated discs, disc degeneration
  • Soft tissue ligament strains and sprains
  • Nerve impingements
  • Sacroiliac dysfunction

Shoulder/Elbow

  • Tendonitis
  • Adhesive capsulitis
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Epicondylitis (tennis elbow)
  • Fractures, dislocations

Hand/Wrist

  • Nerve entrapments (carpal tunnel syndrome, repetitive strain injuries)
  • Strains/sprains
  • Fractures
  • Arthritis
  • Splints (static or dynamic splinting)

Hip/Pelvis

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Trochanter bursitis
  • Piriformis syndrome

Knee

  • Tendonitis/bursitis
  • Ligament injuries

  • Patella femoral joint dysfunction

Musculoskeletal lesions

  • Leg/ankle/foot

Some of the treatment goals of Health First Medical Rehabilitation include:

  • Minimizing pain/swelling
  • Promoting healing of soft tissue injuries
  • Restoring range of motion to joints
  • Increasing muscle strength and endurance
  • Correcting gait and postural deviations
  • Client/family education
  • Addressing work, self-care, and leisure roles
  • Implementing standards of practice following surgical repairs

Our outpatient clinics are professionally staffed by licensed occupational and physical therapists who have achieved advanced training or certification in spine rehabilitation, manual therapy, joint mobilization, hand therapy, aquatic therapy, sports therapy, and functional capacity assessment.

In addition to providing services at our sites in Palm Bay, Melbourne, and Merritt Island, our therapists are available to evaluate work sites for individuals or groups of employees. Education and training are available for:

  • Setting up work stations to promote correct muscle alignment.
  • Developing work exercise programs to prevent work-related injuries.
  • Education on risk factors that are personal or ergonomic.
