Palm Bay Community Hospital

Opening its doors in 1992, Palm Bay Community Hospital (PBCH) is a 60-bed not-for-profit hospital that offers the residents of Palm Bay and neighboring communities convenient access to health care. As an affiliate of Holmes Regional Medical Center (HRMC), PBCH drew from HRMC's 50 years of experience to meet the need for easily accessible medical services and state-of-the-art technology. The adjacent office building houses physicians practicing in a number of specialties.

In August 1995, PBCH and HRMC joined with Cape Canaveral Hospital (CCH) in Cocoa Beach to form Health First, a family of healthcare services in Brevard County that includes physician offices, three fitness centers, home care, and a local health maintenance organization. PBCH shares the Health First mission to improve the health of our community through prevention and education, and by providing high-quality health care. We're a not-for-profit organization committed to the principles of quality, value, and service to our patients, regardless of their ability to pay.

In 1994, Health First's Sleep Disorders Center, Brevard's only hospital-based, accredited sleep disorders testing center, moved from HRMC to PBCH. In 1997, a third operating suite was added, allowing PBCH to bring more surgical services to the residents of Palm Bay, South Brevard, and North Indian River County, and the Nuclear Medicine Department opened, featuring a state-of-the-art, high-tech single-photon emission computer tomographic (SPECT) imaging unit. In 1999, the Sleep Center expanded from two to four beds to accommodate more patients. In the fall of 1999, PBCH became the host site of a Brevard County Emergency Medical Services team, allowing faster service for patients in need and a shorter turnaround time for rescue units.

Most recently, PBCH expanded its emergency and radiology services and added a non-invasive cardiology testing area. In 2002, the Emergency Department doubled capacity -- from 10 to 20 beds -- and a new all-digital radiology suite was also added.
