Health First to Take Part in National Drug Take Back Day

Members of the Public Can Drop Off Unused or Expired Medications

Rockledge, FL (April 9, 2014) Three of Health First’s hospitals are taking part in National Drug Take Back Day, which provides a safe and easy way to dispose of unused or expired medications. Health First is working with the Cocoa Beach Police Department, the Palm Bay Police Department and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

On Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., community members can drop off unused or expired medications at the following locations for proper disposal.

  • Health First Cape Canaveral Hospital(located at 701 W. Cocoa Beach Causeway in Cocoa Beach—please come to the Medical Office Building entrance)
  • Health First Palm Bay Hospital(located at 1425 Malabar Road, NE in Palm Bay—please use the Physician Office Building entrance)
  • Health First Viera Hospital (located at 8745 N. Wickham Road in Viera—please use the main hospital entrance)

Health First will accept pills, liquids, ointments and lotions—and medications may be kept in the original packaging container or placed in a sealable plastic bag.  No IDs or signatures are required.

The drug take back cannot accept syringes, asthma inhalers, drugs in aerosol canisters, or chemotherapy drugs either in IV liquid or oral form. All medications will be turned over to the United States Drug Enforcement Administration for discarding.
