Alphonse Pecoraro, MD shares his General Surgery practice with fellow Health First Physician, Paul Thompson, MD. They both care for their patients and perform surgical procedures at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

Dr. Pecoraro's professional interests encompass a broad spectrum of surgeries including Breast, Colon, Gastric, Gallbladder, Pancreas and skin. He has a special interest in surgical oncology and is the Cancer Liaison Physician to the American College of Surgeons for Cape Canaveral Hospital.

For three years in a row, Dr. Pecoraro has been honored among Americas Top Surgeons by the Consumers Research Council of America. According to the Consumers' Research Council of America, the "Top Surgeons" list is a good starting point to find a qualified surgeon.

Dr. Pecoraro is an inner-city born, raised, schooled and trained General Surgeon. After high school, he attended NJIT as an electrical engineering major but medicine called him. He switched his major to biochemistry and attended St. Peter's College on a full academic scholarship from which he graduated as Valedictorian of his class. He went on to New Jersey Medical School where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine and again was Valedictorian of his class.

Surgical training led him to complete a five year General Surgery Residency in New York City at New York University Hospital. While at NYU, Bellevue Hospital, Manhattan VA Hospital, extensive training in general surgery, trauma surgery, critical care, cardiac surgery, pediatric surgery, vascular surgery and transplant surgery was accomplished. He subsequently became board certified by the American Board of Surgery and has been recertified. He also became a Fellow to the American College of Surgeons.

He spent his first years out of training in New York City as an active General/Trauma Surgeon as well as a surgical instructor for the surgical residency program at Staten Island University Hospital. While there he held such positions as Director of Trauma/Critical Care and Co-Director of Surgery as well as Associate Director of Surgical Education.

Beautiful Florida called and he and his family relocated to Central Florida, where he joined Health First Physicians and Cape Canaveral Hospital. He has served on numerous hospital committees and has held the positions of Chairman of the Surgical Department, Chairman of the Institutional Review Board for Medical Research, Vice President and Treasurer of the medical staff and Medical Staff President at Cape Canaveral Hospital. He also served on the Credentialing Committee.

His interest in cancer care is reflected in his membership on the hospital's Cancer Committee, serving as the 2010-2011 Cancer Liaison Physician to the American College of Surgeon's Commission on Cancer and his Board membership on the Brevard County's Operations Board of the American Cancer Society in the capacity of Board member and Medical Director.

Dr. Pecoraro and his wife Mary Jo live on Merritt Island with their two children, Alexandria and Giancarlo. In his free time, Dr. Pecoraro enjoys cooking and traveling with family and friends.
