About organ/tissue donation & Health First’s Tiger Team
According to the United Network for Organ Sharing, more than 110,000 people are currently on waiting lists for organ transplants. Thousands more are waiting for the gift of sight, or precious organs, bones, or tissues that will save their lives. Each organ donor can save the lives of five to seven people, and a single tissue donor can improve the life of 100 to 150 people.
Health First’s Tiger Team is a dedicated group of healthcare professionals who promote donor awareness and encourage registration for organ & tissue donation. Our team includes nurses, physicians, transplant recipients, ancillary staff members who work closely with transplant organizations such as TransLife, Southeast Tissue Alliance (SETA), and the Lions Eye Institute for Transplant & Research. Many members are also associates with no direct patient care access, just a passion for the Tiger Team’s goals and mission.
Our Tiger Team creates awareness through outreach education that includes informational seminars, professional in-services, and continuing educational presentations for clinical workers. We also host the annual “Life Keep It Going” Conference that joins community, clinicians, donors, and recipients together for a day of sharing and education. All Tiger Team educational opportunities encourage prospective donors to sign donor cards or specify “donor” on their driver’s licenses, and discuss their decision with family members.
Purpose/Mission
The purpose of the Tiger Team is to promote awareness of organ, tissue and eye donations, both within Health First and our community.
