Kenneth C. Sands, MD
Kenneth Sands, MD, is a Fellowship-trained Orthopedic Total Joint Specialist who joined Health First Physicians in 2011. Dr. Sands specializes in hip resurfacing, anterior total hip replacements, computer-assisted surgery, total and partial knee replacements, complex and revision total joint surgery, and hip and knee arthroscopy. He's a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons as well as the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy.
Dr. Sands grew up in upstate New York and attended Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Following Duke, Dr. Sands attended Tulane Medical School, where he fell in love with both Orthopedic Surgery and his wife-to-be. It was also during this time that he joined the U.S. Army.
Following Medical School, Dr. Sands returned to New York for his Orthopedic Residency at SUNY Downstate. Inspired by the possibility of restoring a person's function and quality of life led him to pursue a Fellowship in Adult Joint Reconstruction at the Florida Orthopedic Institute. Following this training, he expanded his clinical skills as Director of the Total Joint Program at William Beaumont Army Medical Center. He also served as a clinical instructor in the Department of Orthopedics at Texas Tech University School of Medicine.
In 2006, Dr. Sands left the U.S. Military to pursue private practice in Rome, Georgia. There he helped transform the local community hospital into a nationally-recognized Total Joint Center of Excellence. In 2011, he was recruited to join the Health First Physicians team. Dr. Sands continues his endeavor to restore both function and quality of life for his orthopedic patients.
